Start the day off right with a Berry Acai Smoothie Bowl! This colourful recipe is a power-packed superfood antioxidant. Due to its healthy fat content, I’ve noticed that this smoothie seems creamier than a typical fruit smoothie. Don’t let the purple colour fool you, you’ll be surprised when I tell you what’s inside!
The acai berry, pronounced “ah-sah-EE”, is a reddish-purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree, native to Central and South America. Studies show that acai fruit pulp is even richer in antioxidants than cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, or blueberries. The beautiful colour from the acai berry hides one ingredient, leafy greens and avocado!
Leafy greens and avocados are an important part of a healthy diet. They’re packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre. If you’re someone who’s greens tend to go bad or you purchase too many, adding them to smoothies is an excellent way to cut down on food waste while getting your daily nutrients.
Tip: If you have any greens that are about to go bad, toss them in the freezer and save them for smoothies.
