How To Make Mixed Berry Oats

I’ve taken a few of my favourite breakfast options and turned them into one delicious Mixed Berry Oats! In the mornings, I enjoy having smoothies, oats or granola. They’re quick options that I can make for myself and Carrington, so it was about time that I found a way to bring them together in one dish.

This creamy comfort dish will give you enough energy to last all morning. With a hearty mix of blueberries, strawberries, oats and granola, you’re sure to receive a healthy dose of protein, fibre, vitamins and nutrients. To get your Mixed Berry Oats looking vibrant and purple like mine, you’ll need to mix your blueberries into your oat mixture. Follow the full list of ingredients and instructions below and get creative with your oats! Try strawberries in replacement of blueberries or maybe diced apples and cinnamon. Add in hemp for omegas and chia seeds for protein.

  • Method: Stovetop

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of steel cut oats
  • 3 cups of water

  • 1 cup of plant milk

  • ¼ tsp of salt

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • 4 tbsp of maple syrup or sweetener of choice

  • 1/3 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries

  • ¼ cup of granola

  • 12 dried strawberry slices

Instructions

  1. Stir in the salt, cinnamon and blueberries. Continue to simmer the mixture, stirring occasionally and reducing the heat as necessary to prevent scorching the bottom, until almost all of the liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes.

  2. Remove from heat and let the oatmeal rest for 5 minutes before serving so it can thicken and cool down slightly.

  3. Portion oatmeal into bowls and top with granola and dried strawberries.

Notes

Store leftover oatmeal in the fridge up to 4 days.
