How To Make Vegan Pizza (Dough)

It’s not delivery, it’s my vegan pizza recipe! Move over takeout pizza because this is easy to make, cheaper than storebought and fully customizable. Today, I’m going to teach you How To Make Vegan Pizza (Dough).

If you have a stand mixer, this recipe will be no problem. You can easily double the ingredients if you’re feeding a crowd or want to save extra dough for future meals. Dough can be frozen for up to 3 months so freeze it and bring it out when you need it.

You know me and I’ve said it before, toppings is my favourite part! This is your chance to get creative. I did not list the toppings I use becausee you can choose whatever you desire. For me, pineapple is non-negotiable. It needs to be on a pizza! Be careful of adding toppings that are wet or carry any liquid because than can weigh down the pizza and create a soggy texture. Keep it light and fresh.

Try this at home on your own or with friends. Spend the evening hosting a pizza party and see who makes the best pizza!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of all-purpose or bread flour
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 ½ tsp of active dry yeast
  • 2tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or bowl of your stand mixture add yeast and sugar. Add 2 cups of hot water (100 degrees).  If your water is too hot it will kill the yeast. Mixture should begin to froth. If not, the yeast may be inactive.  Let sit for 5 mins.
  2. To the yeast mixture add flour and salt.  Using the hook attachment on your stand mixer or a fork if not using a mixer, mix flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for about 3-4 mins then form into a soft ball.
  4. Pour oil into a second bowl, add dough.  Roll in oil to coat. Oil ensures the dough doesn’t get dry.
  5. Cover with a clean towel. Allow dough to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down into another ball to incorporate the olive oil.
  7. If making thick crust pizza divide dough into 2 balls.
  8. Oil a pizza pan.  Press dough into your pan to desired thickness.
  9. Cover with a towel and let rise again for 10 mins.
  10. Preheat oven to 475.  Position rack in the middle.
  11. Add sauce (tomato, pesto, cashew cream) and toppings (roasted zucchini, peppers, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions.
  12. Bake for 15-20 mins or until golden brown.
