Bring the coffee shop home and invigorate your senses with a vegan Dalgona Whipped Matcha Latte. This is my take on the coffee drink that has become an internet sensation, the Dalgona Coffee. It is made with instant coffee, sugar and hot water that is whipped into a caramel-like froth. This Dalgona Whipped Matcha Latte is made in a similar way but instead uses the superfood green matcha tea. It will be as fun to drink as it is to say. Enjoy this light and frothy tea warm or chilled over ice.
How Is This Dalgona Whipped Matcha Latte Vegan?
Free from eggs and dairy, the secret to this luscious whipped tea is aquafaba, the water from a can of beans. Aquafaba has no calories or nutrition, but it mimics egg whites when it’s whipped. It can be incorporated into baked goods, made into whipped creams and creates the best meringues. If you are an avid reader of my blog, my love of aquafaba would be no news to you. It is so satisfying making something beautiful out of an ingredient commonly thrown down the drain. Wouldn’t you agree?
What Does Dalgona Mean?
The word dalgona is derived from the casual Korean word “dalguna” meaning “it’s sweet”. Dalgona coffee is named after a Korean honeycomb candy, because of its resemblance in taste and appearance.
