Can These Waffles Be Gluten-Free?
The answer is yes, these waffles can absolutely be made gluten-free. One way is to ensure you are using gluten-free oat flour and use gluten-free all-purpose flour. A second way is you can eliminate the flour all together and just use gluten-free oat flour. Keep in mind the waffle will be denser and more cookie-like which is a good thing, in my opinion.

PrintChai Spiced Oat Waffles
Healthy, wholesome crispy waffles with the warm blend of chia spices.
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 6 waffles 1x
- Category: Breakfast
- Cuisine: American
- Diet: Vegan
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups oat flour *
- 1/2 cup All Purpose flour
- 4 tbsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch
- 1/3 cup coconut oil, melted
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup coconut sugar
- 1 tbsp chai spice
- 2 cups oat milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron.
- Add the oat flour, AP flour, coconut sugar, arrowroot powder, baking powder, salt, chai spices to a large bowl and whisk until thoroughly incorporated.
- Add milk, melted coconut oil and vanilla. Stir gently until just combined. Do not over-mix as oat flour can become too thick.
- I did not need to oil my waffle iron. If your first waffle sticks I recommend oiling your iron.
- Add about 2/3 cups batter to your hot waffle iron. Spread with a spoon being careful not to get to close to the edge to prevent overflowing. This amount may vary depending on the size of your iron.
- The cook time depends on your iron. Some irons will beep when they are finished. I always cook mine for 20 seconds after I think they are done because I like them crispy.
- Waffles are best when eaten warm. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the toaster to enjoy a quick and easy breakfast.
Notes
Make your own oat flour by blending whole oats in a blender or food processor.
